MIKOY MORALES SINGS ABOUT BEING LOVE SICK IN NEW SINGLE “PUSONG HINDI MAKATULOG”
After working for several years behind the scenes, writing
songs for fellow GMA Artist Center artists like Julie Anne San Jose and Rita De
Guzman, and composing theme songs for various Kapuso series, talented
singer-songwriter Mikoy Morales has finally taken his rightful place under the
spotlight with the launch of his latest single “Pusong Hindi Makatulog.”
At the launch of his single last April 28 2016 at the Music
Hall in Metrowalk in Pasig, Mikoy revealed that he was inspired by the plight
of the lovesick insomniac. The experience of people who can’t sleep because
they miss someone or they are simply nursing a broken heart piqued his
curiosity as a songwriter.
With simple yet powerful lyrics like, “Hindi mapantayan ng
liwanag ng buwan ang ‘yong ilaw. Hanggang kailan kaya ako maghihintay na ikaw
ay maramdaman? Ako rin ba’y iniisip mo, oh? Habang ako’y nangungulila sa’yo? Oh
tumatakbo ang pusong di pa makatulog,” Mikoy has indeed captured the “hugot” of
the broken hearted.
In an interview with GMA News, Mikoy revealed that he likes
to capture the “hugot” of people in his songs; in fact he considers it to be
his trademark. In all of his songs there will always be a little – or a lot –
of “hugot” in there. But if people think
the 4 years it took for Mikoy to finally launch his own single had some “hugot”
attached to it too, the singer who entered showbiz via the talent search
Protégé back in 2012 explained that it took some time before he released his
own music because he wanted to make his own sound and be sure about his own
sound. In fact, Mikoy enjoyed the last 4 years because it helped him identify,
hone and sharpen his identity as a musician. Intrinsic in that sharpening was
the music of Ebe Dancel and Martin Nievera who are some of his musical inspirations.
Mikoy has also tried his hand at acting. He was part of the
cast of TV programs Marimar, More Than Words, Pepito Manaloto, and Villa
Quintana. He will soon be playing his first lead role in a movie in the indie
flick 4 Days directed by award-winning director Adolf Alix. Incidentally,
“Pusong Hindi Makatulog” will also be part of the soundtrack of 4 Days.
To those who enjoyed the soul-baring music of Mikoy there
will definitely be more where that came from; his album which will be filled
with all-original songs will be released by the end of the year.
Perpetually on a journey to improve himself as a musical
artist, Mikoy hopes to collaborate with more artists in his future songs. When
he isn’t busy with his showbiz career Mikoy enjoys life behind the spotlight as
a Music Business Management student in MINT College.
“Pusong Hindi Makatulog” is available for download on
iTunes, Spotify, and Deezer.
